Founded in 1987 by Mike and Gay Anderson when their daughter wanted to play the harp, Starfish has been designing and hand crafting lever harps at our workshop in the Scottish Highlands ever since.
Both have now retired and Dave Shepton is the sole company director and has worked with Starfish since its early days. Originally a boatbuilder, his time is split between running the business and in the workshop making harps. With experience and the knowledge of the challenges that harp players face he has been able to guide the company into designing and making a range of harps and accessories that fully suit the needs of the modern harpist/ performer.
Maggie works in our office and has worked for Starfish since 2011. She strings and tunes the harps as they come through from production. She also deals with any enquiries and string orders.
Davey Tod has worked here for many years also originally coming from a boatbuilding background. His wife is a harpist so Davey understands the needs of a harp player. As well as making new harps, Davey takes on a lot of the servicing and repair work.
David (Dave) Sutherland has worked for us since 2014 making our Starfish Student model. Having trained as a violin maker he runs a small violin making/ repairing business alongside his work at Starfish.
As you can see, you can only work here if you’re called Dave!
